Review: Lady Gaga FAME Holiday Gift Set

One day, when I had no idea what to review next, I asked Ze Boyfreind what I should do. He suggested the Lady Gaga FAME Holiday Gift Set I had bought in February from Sephora. You might think I'm completely nuts for asking Ze Boyfriend, who isn't much interested in my makeup, about reviewing makeup. Worry not, he gives some pretty good advice haha.

As I said, I bought this in February when I was buying the Too Faced Sweethearts blush. Ze Boyfriend had given me money for it and I had a little bit left from Christmas. I bought both, because I had seen the gift set on Sephora.com under the Sale section while I was checking the availability. I immediately sent a text to Ze Boyfriend to tell him that it was a birthday gift for me, from both of us (that made him very happy). I like giving myself little gifts for my birthday and I don't really like people buying perfume for me, since they could get the wrong thing. It's also generally a luxury purchase! (I also know not everyone likes Gaga and may hate her, but that's your opinion!)

The gift set was on sale for $45 (originally $57!) and is still available. I've never received a gift set ever, for anything. I know buying perfume is definitely a personal thing; if you haven't smelled the perfume before or if you haven't smelled on yourself, it can be difficult for someone to buy you a bottle! I made my decision after opening one of those little scented perfume ads. I swiped it on and wore it around the house, smelling myself at various times. I was hooked!

The beautiful box
This set is elegantly packaged in a black box with gold trimming and gold text. I like the semi-claw on the front, which is a reference to the golden claw topper on the bottles. Ze Boyfriend and I refer to it as The Claw. The interior "drawer" slides out from the bottom, so be careful! Inside is a red velvet-flocked plastic tray holding three pieces: a 0.34 oz Eau de Parfum Rollerball with all-gold text, the 1.7 oz Eau de Parfum Spray in the signature egg-shaped bottle and gold neck band with "LADY GAGA FAME" in black text, and an Ephemeral Tattoo of Lady Gaga in her skeletal makeup from the Born This Way music video. (Am I the only one madly in love with Rick Genest, the tattooed Zombie Boy? I just have a thing for guys with tattoos and piercings...) Oh, and in case you're at all confused, the perfume itself is black, not the bottle. It isn't black when you spray it, only in the bottle so no worries about your skin being stained black.

Here's a view of the back of the regular perfume box, showing the funny warning labels and what the tattoo image is from Allura Beauty:

Now let's do some math:
$19.00 (0.34 oz Rollerball) + $55.00 (1.7 oz Spray bottle) = $74 worth of product for $45. It's also about 2 oz of perfume! What you're basically getting for your money is a hell of a lot of perfume for a pretty sweet price.

THE CLAAAAAW
Fooling around with The Claw. Not how I really store it!
The notes in this are (according to Sephora) Belladonna, Incense, Apricot, Honey Drops, Tiger Orchidea, Jasmin Sambac. I already have a perfume that contains belladonna, a sample from Illamasqua for their fragrance FREAK (which speaks to me!) and it's... A hard to describe fragrance. I really find FAME to be fruity and I generally despise fruit scents but it's so pleasant. I also think of it as being very sophisticated! I don't know what it is about this perfume. It seems to change as I wear it and every time I wear it, not because it's sitting in sunlight! That can actually damage your perfumes.

Whether you like Gaga or not, this perfume is certainly something to check out. The gift set is still available at Sephora, but I highly recommend you check store availability before rushing out to grab this. The 1.7 oz bottle and 3.4 oz bottle are both on sale, the 1.7 for $49.00 (originally $55.00) and the 3.4 for $65.00 (originally $79.00). Aside from the two bigger bottles and rollerball, there's a 1 oz bottle. Ulta also carries FAME, as do many other retailers. I know people generally hate celebrity perfumes because they tend to be horrible and without thought. Not the case here!

PS: Gaga also released FAME shower gel and lotion, both black. The shower gel is still available at Sephora for $25.00. I've also been really off in taking pictures today! Guess it's the rain/lightning. Also...
POLL TIME!

Would you like to see more perfume reviews?

PPS: THAAAAAANK YOUUUUU FOR ALL THE VIEWS! 2323?! I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT! I hope to get stuff done and hopefully have some pretty art to share as well as the usual beauty (and maybe a shoe review!)
